Industrialist Jimoh Ibrahim has emerged the governorship candidate of the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports
that the primary election commenced on Sunday evening at the Banquet
Hall of Premier Hotel, Ibadan.
More than 560 accredited votes were recorded and Ibrahim polled 502 votes and his sole contender Olusola Ebiseni polled 41 votes, while 17 votes were invalid.
Ali Gulak, the Chairman
of the Electoral Committee, who announced Ibrahim as the winner said
that the party had displayed that democracy was about the people.
There were five aspirants vying for the governorship ticket of the PDP faction led by Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff in Ondo State.
The aspirants were: Jimoh Ibrahim, Olusola Ebiseni, Bamiduro Dada, Niran-Sule Akinsuyi and Abiye Ademuyegun.
Dada, Akinsuyi and Ademuyegun withdrew from the primaries to support Ibrahim to emerge as the governorship.
The three aspirants, who withdrew in
their separate speeches said that their decision was the result of a
wide consultation and the need to support a formidable candidate to
develop the state.
In his address, Ibrahim said that his aspiration was to rescue Ondo State from the incumbent, Governor Olusegun Mimiko, whom he said has destroyed the state.
“We must all come together to rescue our
state from total destruction. Gov. Olusegun Mimiko has collected over a
trillion naira and has destroyed the state same,” he said.
Ibrahim said that he was interested in
revamping the education sector of the state, create jobs and turn around
the economy of the state.
He said that he was a man with first class integrity and an employer of over 8,000 Nigerians.
“I have managed over 8,000 workers, 16
companies and have earned two national honours in this course. I promise
job creation, peace and economic emancipation,” he said.
Ibrahim thanked the delegates for their
support, promising to defend the mandate given to him professionally,
politically, and economically.
