'Let Vincent Enyeama be' -Nigeria goalkeeping legend, Ike Shorunmu warns coach Gernot Rohr

Super Eagles Goalkeeping legend Ike Shorunmu has advised the new Foreign technical adviser Gernot Rohr to respect Lille Osc goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama's decision to retire from the Super Eagles.

Enyeama retired from the Super Eagles last year after falling out with then head coach Sunday Oliseh, but Rohr has attempted to mend bridges since taking over the coaching reins and even suggested in an interview that Enyeama could return if Nigeria qualify to the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup. But Shorunmu, feels Enyeama should be left alone as calling him back might be counter-productive.
“There have been several calls for him (Enyeama) to return to the team, but he has insisted and his decision should be respected even if the manner at which he exited the international scene was not a good one,” Shorunmu  told Completesportsnigeria.
He should be left alone! The same thing happening now occurred to me when I retired from international football. There were calls from every quarters that I should return but I stood my ground, to allow other goalkeepers grow into the team.‎Maybe that’s what Enyeama feels as well. The likes of Ikeme, Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa must be given a chance.”
