* Dasuki declined DSS offer to attend father’s burial— Dambazau
ABUJA—President Muhammadu Buhari has described the late Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki as a voice for peace in the country.
This was contained in a statement by the presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, yesterday.
Former Sultan, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki The President’s statement came as Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.), said former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), Monday, declined an offer to visit his late father, Ibrahim Dasuki, in an Abuja hospital, adding that he also declined another offer to be in Sokoto throughout the mourning of his late father.
The President also consoled the bereaved family, praying God to grant eternal rest to the deceased.
The statement read in part: “President Muhammadu Buhari extends heartfelt condolences to the Dasuki family, the government and people of Sokoto State on the death of the 18th Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki.
“President Buhari also commiserates with the Jama’atul Nasril Islam, JNI, and the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs over the demise of the remarkable traditional ruler that devoted his life, tenure of office to the promotion of peaceful coexistence and tolerance among diverse ethnic groups in Nigeria.”
On the Dasuku invitation, Dambazau, who spoke to newsmen in Sokoto yesterday, said: “We had discussed with the Director-General, Department of State Services, DSS, and Sambo was offered to visit his father.
“He declined and said he preferred to pray for him. He was also offered an opportunity to be in Sokoto throughout the mourning period and he also declined, preferring to pray for his late father. That was the true situation.”
Ibrahim Dasuki, who was the former Sultan of Sokoto, and father of Col. Sambo (retd.), died on Monday in an Abuja hospital at the age of 93.
