Reports have emerged on how Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tried to sign Paul Pogba after he left Manchester United in 2012.
According to a report on Goal.com, Pogba has been Wenger’s watch list, since his days as a teenager at French side Le Havre.
But the Frenchman was beaten to the talented midfielder’s signature by his arch rival Sir Alex Ferguson in 2009.
However, Pogba’s first three year spell at Man United didn’t work out
as planned as he was deemed surplus to requirement at Old Trafford.
But again, Wenger would be beaten by Juventus for the 23-year-old
signature in 2012. Wenger said in 2014: “Things happened very quickly.
We were interested in him. “We tried to get him to come here.
But he very quickly signed for Juventus.” Even Pogba’s older brother
Florentin revealed that the clubs “that made him (Pogba) dream were Real
Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal.”
Like Pogba, stars like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier
Drogba, Yaya Toure and Michael Essien are all players who Wenger was in
for before they joined their respective clubs.
However, Pogba will be looking to show that he made the right
decision to return to Manchester United when his side square up against
Wenger’s Gunners on Saturday, November 19. Pogba became the world’s most
expensive footballer when he arrived at United from Juventus during the
summer in an £89m deal.
