The Olympics Men Football team of Nigeria (Dream Team) eased past
Sweden 1-0 to qualify for the quarterfinals of the competition. Swedish goalkeeper Andres Linde had a lot to do as Nigeria dominated
possession and piled pressure on the Sweden’s defense all through the
game. Sadiq Umar and four-goal Etebo tormented defense of their
opponents but missed all a lot of simple chances. However, in the 23rd minute, the Sweden had its best
chance on goal as Mikael Ishak made a wonderful run behind the Nigeria’s
defense but volleyed is shot wide as Nigeria continued to control the
match. Eventually Sadiq Umar got the opener and the only goal for the
Dream team after a vital misses from Oghenekaro Etebo. In the second half, Nigeria continued to dominate possession and
forced Linde into multiple diving saves to prevent a second goal.
Meanwhile, The Nigerian goalkeeper had little to do as his team had 10
shots on goal compared to Sweden’s only one shot on goal. Nigeria now has maximum six points from two games at the competition
with a great position to progress into the quarterfinals of the Men’s
football event at the Rio Olympics in Brazil. They play Colombia on Tuesday in their final group match.
