RB Leipzig can emulate Leicester City’s Premier League
achievements and win the Bundesliga title, according to Borussia
Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel.
Leipzig, only formed seven years ago by Red Bull, are top after Bayern Munich’s 1-0 defeat by Dortmund.
“Last year we had the phenomenon of Leicester City in England,” said Tuchel.
“Leipzig can do exactly the same thing. I’m convinced of that whenever I see them play.”
Leipzig went top on Friday with a thrilling 3-2 win at Bayer Leverkusen.
They have won four promotions in their first seven seasons after
their controversial rebrand by the energy drink company, which has made
them unpopular with fans of other clubs.
They are three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga after 11 games, with Bayern second and Dortmund – another three points behind – third.
Tuchel said:
“Leipzig are no flash in the pan. They have to be taken very seriously indeed. It’s comparable with what happened last season in England.”
Leicester won the first league title in their history last season after being 5,000-1 outsiders at the start of the campaign.
