Two men have been apprehended by the Ogun state police for possession of human bones.
The suspects identified as Wole Oke and Wasiu Adesina were arrested on Friday, September 30 at Ijemo Idi Aro area of Abeokuta.
Officers from the Oke Itoku Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, Abeni Farinre, were on routine patrol of the area when they came across the suspects.
Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen that the two suspects who were carrying a leather bag immediately took to their heels as soon as they sighted the police officers.
The police reportedly gave them hot chase and eventually arrested them.
“On searching the bag with them, it was discovered that it contained human bones.
On interrogation, one of the suspects, Wole Oke, confessed that they were the bones of his sister who died four years ago,” he said.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police, added that Oke revealed that a herbalist asked him to bring the bones which were to be used for money ritual.
Oyeyemi disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
According to Oyeyemi, the CP also directed officers to arrest the herbalist mentioned in the case.
